T. Mshvidobadze The NDEI model in ELT materials development

https://doi.org/10.31174/SEND-PP2022-263X102-09

Abstract. Today’s classrooms require significant alterations in the teaching and learning process, especially in terms of autonomous components of learning and needs-based resources. Students should be able to connect what they learn in class to their real-life inter- ests and needs. The article provides the Needs Assessment, Design, Evaluation, and Implementation (NDEI) model, which is a guide- line on what steps should be taken to design tasks in an effective way. The aim of the article is to determine the correlation between contextualized tasks and vocabulary competency. The purpose of this essay is to see if using a model to create tasks is effective. In two control and two experimental groups, pre-, during, and delayed post-tests were utilized to collect statistical data, and tests were performed  to  assess  the  outcomes  using  a  two-tailed  quasi-experimental  design.  According  to  the  findings,  materials  targeted  to students’ interests and needs had a significant influence on vocabulary competency.

A. O. Roliak Higher Education and Student Mobility in Scandinavian Discourse

https://doi.org/10.31174/SEND-PP2022-263X102-11

Abstract. Purpose: Today, with the demand of a knowledge-based society to adapt its workforce to modern, flexible and innovative production, the mobility of students has become an integral part of the European education system. The article offers a comparative analysis of the historical background, evaluation of the present situation, principles, and new political initiatives on accessibility in the tertiary education systems of countries in the North European region. The Nordic context is the most important for the development of student mobility and accessibility to tertiary education because these countries have gained unique experience in this sphere, creating democratic, free, and equal systems of tertiary education that exist as a component of lifelong learning. Materials and Methods: Multiple sources in European and Scandinavian educational environments at various time points from 1990 to 2022 have been used in the data collection for this study. By means of a case study approach that includes qualitative methods of analytical induction and generalization, a “contextualized comparison” has been carried out to identify characteristic features of students’ mobility in institutions of higher learning in the Nordic region and to explore the process in chronological order. Results: Students’ mobility in Europe and worldwide requires a substantial adjustment at the legislative, structural, and contextual levels. Based on a comparative analysis of the policy features in historical retrospective, the author has substantiated postmodern initiatives that influence the construction of an efficient high education model accessible for all.

Abstract. The article deals with the reforms of secondary education in Great Britain which are the doctrine of domestic comparativ- ists. Recently, various aspects of the reforms and secondary education have been the subject of many dissertations. The current reform of secondary education experience of Great Britain is primarily due to the fact that there are active and successive changes that led to a significant improvement of the quality of its operations. The stages of reforms are primarily defined to justify government positions in various spheres and areas of social activity. The content and direction of educational reforms in the UK reflects the inter- ests of the political forces that find themselves in power. The structural reforms taking place in the system of secondary education in the UK in the middle of the twentieth century and at the beginning of the XXI-st century had a continuous nature, lasted for several political cycles, thus ensuring their consistency and efficiency. In the middle of the XX-th century dramatic changes happened due to general processes of globalization that have affected the fundamentals of education. The cornerstone of all transformations in educa- tion is integration. The national education system steps into the era of continuous reform, whose main objective is to improve the quality of education in the process of convergence of national educational systems. One of the prerequisites for the successful devel- opment of any country is to ensure its future, largely depends on the current reform of the education system. The author stresses that neolabourists have chosen such guidelines for the reform of secondary education:

1) the development of education in accordance with the laws of the market economy is seen as the realization of a new national imperative of investing in the future of national economic prosperity;

2) awareness of the impossibility significant increase in government spending on social services and the simultaneous desire  to comply with the ideas of social equality led to the implementation of the principle of “selective universalism”;

3) implementation of the principle of competition between schools in the state education sector; implementation of market mechanisms to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of education;

4) competition is a response to the new strength and means to achieve balance. To improve the national system of secondary education in our country it is appropriate and necessary to study positive reforms of secondary education in the UK.
