A. M. Andreev, T. V. Gulyaev, S. P. Tkachenko Training model to demonstrate the conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy
Abstract. The article discusses the problem of familiarization of the students with physical basics of energy saving. Given the technical description (design and operation of the proposed device for demonstrating the conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy, determined by its position in the school demonstration experiment in physics and the peculiarities of its approbation. The proposed device for demonstrating the conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy can be used in the educational process in physics as a visual demonstration tool in the study of selected topics in mechanics and molecular physics and thermodynamics. In this article the device in collaboration with the experimental group students obtained the patent of Ukraine for useful model “Device for demonstrating the conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy”. The object of the invention was made by the use of previously known product (a child’s toy “Protective boat”) for a new purpose – as a demonstration device for physical experiment. In contrast to known devices of similar purpose of use of the device in question allows you to demonstrate a closed cycle with a working medium that experiences a phase transformation liquid-vapor-liquid; to demonstrate the use of converting thermal energy into mechanical energy for practical purposes; to be used as a source of energy for various fuels; to promote the safety demonstration of the transformation of thermal energy of the working fluid into kinetic energy of the model. A device and passed peer review on the national and international contests of physics and technical direction, where he received approval. The use of the model prorective engine expands the horizons of students in the field of energy saving (in particular, deepens their knowledge of the devices and methods of converting one form of energy into another), and also contributes to their interest in the study of physics as a whole.

H. G. Dovhopolova The concept of professional learning community in modern American theory of education
Abstract. The article highlights the meaning of one of the concepts of school culture development in modern American theory of education, particularly the concept of professional learning community. The impact of its main ideas to the organizational school culture is explained. The main purpose of introducing the concept is to improve the quality of students’ knowledge that is provided by the constant attention to their learning process and continuous professional development of school staff. School as learning communi- ty works on such principles: the creation of conditions to ensure that the students really learn culture of cooperation, the focus on results. Implementation of all these ideas into practice requires great effort to school staff: focus on teaching students more than teaching, common work on improving the learning process, awareness of responsibility for results and continuous of development.
Keywords: organizational culture, school, professional learning community, cooperation, professional development.

M. V. Duka The Problem of Teaching Students to Reveal and Understand Non-verbal Signals in the Works of English Literature
Abstract. The article deals with the problem of teaching 3rd year students majoring in English to reveal and understand non-verbal signals in the works of English literature. It is outlined that the importance of forming intercultural competence which helps to estab- lish and maintain the “dialogue of cultures” depends on the usage in the communicative process of both verbal messages and non- verbal signals (cues). The latter are believed to bear even more information than verbal messages. The article is aimed at generalizing methodic approaches to teaching students to comprehend non-verbal signals in English fiction and to specify the difficulties of such teaching connected with the particularities of the process of understanding in general and the process of understanding of fiction in particular, non-verbal signals (cues) as the object of understanding and the characteristics of the 3rd year students majoring in English as the subject of understanding. The author generalizes the main features of the process of understanding, characterizing it as multilayered and multi-dimensional. The process of decoding the meaning of a non-verbal signal (cue) represented in the text by means of a nomination becomes even more complex. A reader has to consider first the double form of a non-verbal cue (its nomination and the very form of the sign) and then the information it implies. The article proves that it is necessary to develop the ability to identify a non-verbal cue in an excerpt of text it is investigated within and to link it with the rest of the events of the whole text, the ability to deduce the implicit information represented by a non-verbal cue (to match the existing background knowledge concerning a non- verbal signal with all its possible meanings in context and to compare the meaning of a non-verbal signal with the context). The author suggests the idea of using frames while teaching students to understand non-verbal signals in texts. The model of the notion of a non-verbal cue is visualized in the article identifying the spheres a non-verbal sign can be associated with. The problem of acquiring background knowledge is touched upon in the work. The types of background knowledge necessary for grasping the meaning of non-verbal signals are singled out, among which psychological knowledge, historical and cultural knowledge and biographical knowledge of the author. The article also overviews the influence of fragmentary “clip thinking” on students’ real ability to read the text in detail, to elicit the main thoughts of the text, to meditate on its ideas and topics, to comprehend it, to evaluate and later use the information received.
