O. O. Bezzubova German SMS Communication: A textual Aspect

Abstract.  SMS  communication  is  an  important  segment  of  electronic  communication  that  was  established  in  the  society  of  XXI century and its system of communication. The article is devoted to the investigation of German SMS messages alleged to be popular form of communication. According to conceptual semantic features German SMS messages are divided into SMS messages providing technical service and support, mass media SMS messages, private SMS messages, conventionalized SMS utterances, SMS aphorisms and SMS jokes. Different interpretations of the term “text”, one of the most relevant categories of modern linguistics, are considered. Communicative approach to studying German SMS messages allows to explain SMS communication as an interaction that is realized by means of the text. SMS text exists in the system of mobile communication in electronic written form of communicative activity of mobile phone users – SMS communicators. Technical space of SMS communication directly influences the process of text generation and stipulates appearance of peculiar characteristics of SMS messages texts.

V. Demetska, K. Hizer The notion and concept of anti-patriotism: fake or fact?

Abstact: This article highlights the problem of verification of the concept anti-patriotism on the basis of cognitive linguistics from the point of view of translational studies. The transcoding of this concept into target culture gains additional importance dealing with not so much informational texts, as with texts, which have strongly-pronounced pragmatic and aesthetic character such as poetry on military topics. The results of this study may prove the relevancy of the concept anti-patriotism for adequacy of translation not only poetic texts, but also for texts of political and mass-media discourses.

Abstract: The article examines the main issues collocation UN, NATO, the WTO during the parallel corpustranslation. Translation problems dealt  with in accordance  with the specialization of official documents.  Particular attention is paid to the abbreviation, a terminological constant expressions and idioms as the important structural units of international diplomatic communications. Colocation and kolligation are considered in the perspective of their application in the comparative dictionary of specialized terms of the UN, NATO and the WTO (as a parallel application to Russian National Corpus).

E. Doubenko Stylistic features of English and Ukrainian official-business texts in a comparative perspective

Abstract. The article focuses on one of the central issues of comparative functional stylistics which consists in singling out of convergent and divergent stylistic features of official-business texts written in different languages. It aims to describe those most conspicuous homologous and distinguishing characteristics of English and Ukrainian official-business style documents that should constitute the subject of special attention in situations of interlanguage communication.

Abstract. The article analyses symbolic gestures functioning in the context of the American entertaining television interview. It is brought to light that symbolic gestures function both as parts of gesture-verbal utterances  where they  mean the same as  words or communicate  some  additional  meanings  which  comply  with  the  information  expressed  verbally,  and  also  as  separate  gesture utterances whose meanings are specified in the context of the act of communication. In terms of motivation some symbolic gestures can  be  interpreted  as  products  of  metaphoric  derivation  of  iconic  gestures  which  become  conventional.  Some  symbolic  gestures demonstrate image-schematic metaphoric nature.

H. Naienko The linguistic devices of author's reflection in the polemical text by Agatangel Krymskyi

Abstract. Modeling of sens structure of scientific text by Agatangel Krymskyi allows us to describe an extensive system of the author’s reflection methods. Highlighted is the most common approach to evaluation of the methods, study  object (language signs of written monuments), findings of predecessors and the new knowledge characterizing the text in question as estimating and polemical. Study results point at the principles of ethnographic purism, adhered to by the author in his views on the literary language.

O. Ponomarova Phraseological items with components denoting medical professions: motivation, structure and evaluating features

Abstract. The article is a many-sided study of Ukrainian, English and German phraseological units, primarily proverbs with components denoting doctor or other medical profession. The author analyses structural, semantic and stylistic features of these set phrases from the cross-linguistic and cross-cultural viewpoint, paying a special attention to the role of these components in forming idiomatic meaning as well as the way the latter reflects traditional ethnolinguistic notions and stereotypes of medical professions.

L. Prysiazhniuk Altered States of Consciousness in M. Ondaatje’s The English Patient

Abstract. This paper focuses on revealing distinctive features of literary representation of altered states of consciousness (ASC) in the novel The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje. For this purpose, we developed the taxonomy of ASC represented in the novel and studied the established  groups of these states  by  means of  linguostylistic analysis coupled with  cognitive  approach to literary semantics. The results obtained showed that each type of ASC has its own linguistic and narrative features of manifestation. Application of cognitive analysis allowed us to gain a better understanding of cognitive basis of the representation of ASC.

Abstract:  The article is devoted to research of therapeutic texts, presented in the Internet-space. The determining sign that allows considering a text as a therapeutic one is the presence of therapeutic metaphor in this text. Verbal features of therapeutic  texts are analyzed: the use of semantic and lexical repetitions, including synonymy; the use of different modalities; the presence of language metaphors, epithets and comparisons; the use of high-level abstract words and concrete words.

Abstract. Medialinguistic problematics of research of new phraseological \ media phraseological units in media language are considered in the article. Particular emphasis during analysis of stylistics of media phraseology in the Slavic world in made on the media linguistic sources as a modern branch of linguistic studies. Relevant theories of mass communication in Slavic linguistics are analyzed  and  considered  from  the  point  of  their  use  during  research  studies  focused  on  lexical  and  phraseological  structure  of  mass media language.

Abstract. Discourse is considered in the present article from the point of view of the synergistic theory of complex self-developing communicative systems in their interaction with their social environment. It is shown that all the well-known definitions of the concept of discourse fully correspond to the definitions of open, non-linear, dynamic synergistic systems formulated within the modern synergistic paradigm.

O. O. Zlotnik-Shagina Poetry of ХVІ–ХVІІІ Centuries and their Scientific Interpretation by Ivan Franko

Summary. This article is focused on the phenomenon of Ukrainian Baroque poems as specifically interpreted by Ivan Franko. It is underlined that many texts were published and commented by the scientist for the first time. His special positive references, as noted, were given to poems of the national topic, and to the collection of spiritual poems  «Bohohlasnyk». Klymentiy Zynoviev and Hryhoriy Skovoroda were referred by him as true Ukrainian writers.

Zyomko U. The tactics of the positive presentation of the object of criticism on the material of the English and German film reviews

The given paper highlights the latest Western approaches to the research of the genre and the interpretations of the communicative move. The article analyses the realization of the communicative tactics “the positive presentation of the object of criticism” in the English and German film reviews. The  speech  moves  within the aforementioned tactics have been determined and their language indicators summarized. The contrastive method of research makes it possible to discover the peculiarities of the speech realization of the tactics “the positive presentation of the object of criticism” in the English and German film reviews.
